Last night I booked my next trip. Where am I heading? Kansas City, Missouri!
Located in the middle of America's heartland, this city that lies on the border of Kansas and Missouri (and is partially located in each state) is home to many attractions, including the American Jazz Museum, Arrowhead Stadium (home to the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs), the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and a lot more.
Thanks to an EXCELLENT city travel guide located at www.visitkc.com I was able to plot out my complete itinerary for 4 day/3 night stay.
Monday night arrival
- dinner at hotel/relaxing/time in the pool
Tuesday
- off to Lawrence, Kansas, to visit one of the meccas of college basketball, the home of the Kansas Jayhawks. Brunch in Lawrence at Wheatfield's Bakery (should i feel like being healthy) or First Watch Cafe (should i feel like being not so healthy). After exploring campus and trying to get a photo w/ a Jayhawk mascot or statue, perhaps a movie at Liberty Hall, one of the oldest theaters in the country (nearly 150 years old!).
- back to Kansas City to check out Arrowhead Stadium, and to go to the College Basketball Experience/College Basketball Hall of Fame (http://www.visitkc.com/things-to-do/member-details/index.aspx?id=37781). Dinner at the Legendary Arthur Bryant's Barbeque, considered to be the best restaurant in the world by New Yorker columnist Calvin Trillin. http://www.arthurbryants.com/
Wednesday
- Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in the early afternoon, followed by a few meetings and a tour of the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Dinner at Genghis Kahn (www.gkbbq.com) and some much needed rest/relaxation.
Thursday
- fly back out to LA!
Should be a great trip, and as soon as I return I will be sure to post photos. If you can think of anything that you would recommend that I see, please let me know!

Downtown is excellent man. Plaza III Steakhouse is a MUST (2nd IMO to Peter Lugers, of Brooklyn, NY), and its in a great area of the city, with an irish pub across the street that is also very good. There is a steamboat casino on the river open 24hrs, and the Arthur Bryants is inside there - not bad, not the best, IMO. Arrowhead is located next door to the newly renovated $250m Kauffman Stadium - take a tour if possible - really nice ballpark, good right field bar/grill.
ReplyDeletethanks for the heads-up! i will definitely do the steakhouse, and perhaps move the grill to Tues for lunch since it's lighter fare.
ReplyDeletei don't believe that kauffman does tours right now, but i'll check that as well.
no casino/pubs on this trip unfortunately!
